Argentum Regio Religion[]

The pantheons listed below are very much incorporated into the game. As preface to this material, it is important to point out that the cultures depicted in this game/campaign are Pantheistic cultures. Think of them as more like classic Roman culture, where the general feeling was that, since the gods controlled everything in our lives, it was best to not offend any gods by notworshiping them. Hence, while PRIESTS/CLERICS would (often) serve a single deity (becoming initiated into the 'mysteries' [often pronounced 'shen-an-i-gans'] of that priesthood) the general populace were free and even encouraged to worship at any and all temples to the temples' respective god.

Local areas often have local gods. Some gods are a little more cosmopolitan than that, and are known widely throughout whole regions. Contained within the listings of the pantheons linked herein, are those deities of the more cosmopolitan variety. Other MODULES may later introduce additional, strange, deities and their living or extinct cults. As PCs travel about, they should be encouraged to explore the local temples.

Built into this game engine (Neverwinter Nights) is a feature that allows a PC to select a DEITY. This value is initially set to a "" (blank or null value). A PC may enter a temple and interact with an altar or priest to have this value (DEITY) changed to match that of the temple/priest. There is no penalty for changing this value (since the general populace is encouraged to worship at all available temples [subject to temple/deity worshiper restrictions], so too are PCs. Unlike the general populace, for PCs it is somewhat important what the value of this DEITY selection is should the PC actually die.

(Note- the following system is not yet implemented as for beta test purposes it was deemed more expedient to allow PCs just to step through a gate to resume game play.)

PCs who experience death are whisked away to a Netherrealm compatible with the PC's then current alignment. Here are found numerous paths, each leading to a deity associated with this Netherrealm. The PC should seek out a deity whom the PC has previously worshiped, preferably the PC's current DEITY. AT PRESENT THERE IS ONLY ONE DIVINE REPRESENTATIVE IN THE NETHER REALM FOR THE PC TO INTERACT WITH - EVENTUALLY WE WILL REVEAL THE REST OF THE AVATARS WHEN BETA TEST IS DONE, BUT FOR NOW, THIS SINGLE FUGUE MASTER NPC WILL SUFFICE. Conversation with any friendly FUGUE MASTER NPCs may result in the PC being Resurrection and teleported back to that deity's temple, while conversation with the avatars of the PCs current deity is more likely to achieve this preferred result. A less-preferred result of such conversation is that the PC looses one or more magical items in bargain for Resurrection and transportation back to the deity's temple. A still less-preferred outcome of such conversation is that the deity may be displeased with the quantity of worship performed by the PC in their life to date, and thereby emplace any number of further restrictions or penalties (as befits the individual deity). The least preferred outcome of such conversation is that the PC will be refused boon by the deity, pending the PC's performance of some otherworldly task.

When not dead, PCs are encouraged to curry favor of numerous deities compatible with the PCs' alignment and class. To do so, the PC should frequent the temple of said deities, there to use the altar to initiate worship. This is logged by the system (both frequency and total number of such worship actions) and used in many ways within the game, including in choosing the outcome of conversations between the dead and their deity.

Note for players:

  • There is no penalty for swapping gods or 'worshipping' multiple gods. It's incredibly useful to have a priest to go to for divine healing (Which you will need!), so even if none of the readily available gods with temples suit your character exactly, 'follow' the next best fit.

  • Many of these gods might be familiar to you, being from Faerun/Toril- this world is not Toril, but is connected. Gods are not restricted by planes, and their names will spread wherever they can gain followers- as many people 'fall' through the barriers between the dimensions from Faerun/Toril into this one, it's not surprising that their gods gain a foothold here over time. (E.G. Lloth and the Drow are not native to this world, but Lloth was brought through by the drow that fell into this world.)

  • The most well known gods in Argentum Regio as a place are the Human/Hadabarthan gods. They are local gods- people playing characters from far off lands or from other worlds may not know them. The world in total likely has many, many more gods. Your character may know completely different gods. However, the temples available belong to local gods- you would not go to a foreign land and expect them to have temples to your own gods (usually). So, when in rome...'

Non-Human Gods[]

These deities are more specific to certain races, other than humans. Note: As Argentum Regio is set in Human-Dwavern lands, with a focus on the Human states, non-human gods are less prioritized when it comes to building temples and implementing worship scripts. If there is a god listed here that you want to worship, but is not on the table above, please ask on he forums if they can be implemented.

Dwarven Gods[]

Sorton[]

Sorton Stonebreak is (naturally) an archtypical dwarf; broad of shoulder and equally narrow of mind, of great anger and abiding friendship, sporting small stature and long beard. He bears hammers, of the finest dwarven sort. Sorton values and epitomizes the creative aspect of the dwarf – crafters of great objects, and delvers of grand halls. *God of – Forgework (assign Building / Mining to sons) He, along with Clangeddin Silverbeard and Moradin are the dwarven Deities, with Sorton being the most wildly known and worshiped.

The other two gods appear to originate from another realm, despite the dwarven populace in Argentum Regio being one of the oldest. It's suspected outsiders who have fallen through the tears between worlds introduced these two gods to the native dwarves and, unlike other foriegn deities, caught on due to the native dwarven populace's influence on the realm and their respect for dwarven traditions and beliefs.

Void[]

Deity: Void
Home Plane: Vacuum
Pseudonyms: He who never was / The Dreamer / The Endless Chasm / Lord of broken Dreams
Alignment: CE
Symbol: A Dark Orb

Void is a quasi-god. As much a force of nature itself as it is a being. It is in essence; the very embodiment of emptiness in all its forms. Be it the darkness of the deepest cavern or the emptiness of a broken heart. Void has an limited omniscient ability to know his domain. Void is a planar wanderer who sometimes lingers in contact with a plane to draw down certain elements from that plane, sewing discord and evil in its wake. Manipulative and wicked, Void seems to enjoy badgering and lying to those it deals with, purporting to be all powerful in an attempt to break the target creature to Void's own will.

OOC Info:

Created by DM Darkness - for the Epic story event,The Shadow Saga.

Currently this god cannot be served (as by a cleric, neither PC nor NPC), having been in some unknown way dislodged from contact with this plane.
