A shifter has no form they call their own. Instead, they clothe themselves in whatever shape is most expedient at the time. While others base their identities largely on their external forms, the shifter actually comes closer to their true self through all of their transformations. Of necessity, their sense of self is based not on their outward form, but on their soul, which is truly the only constant about them. It is the inner strength of that soul that enables them to take on any shape and remain themselves within.

To qualify as a shifter, a character must fulfill all of the following criteria:

Feats: Alertness Spellcasting: level 3 or higher Alternate Form: Must have a natural, alternate form (like Druid wildshape) Only druids can become shifters in Neverwinter Nights.

RP Tips and In Game[]

  • Shifter is a 3.0 edition class, from 'Masters of the Wild'. There is an updated 3.5 class, Master of Many Forms, but the NwN class fits closer to the 3.0 edition.
  • According to the 3.0 rules, Any body part separated from a shifter while they are polymorphed, remains so even if the shifter changes form. However items separated from a shifter will retain their natural shape.
  • At Epic level a shifters type/race becomes 'Shapechanger' according to 3.0 rules, and the shifter no longer ages. The shifter still keeps any aging effects already gained by this level and will still die when their soul reaches the end of their mortal coil. This means a shifter who was born human will not live much longer than a healthy human reaching old age.
  • In 3.0 rules a shifter need not be a druid, but in 3.5 rules the requirements mean that druid class is necessary unless another class with wildshape is available. In ARcD it is recommened that Shifters should act as druids as much as possible, until their shifter class outweighs their druid class and they can then start to move away from their druidic roots.
